Plainfield offers many outdoor activities from parks to forest preserves, there is something for everyone.
DuPage River Trail is located at the northwest corner of Rt 59 and Naperville Rd and runs approximately .8 miles from River Walk Park.
Settlers Park is located just west of downtown and features 20 acres with an Amphitheater for summer concerts, a history walk, a restored War Monument, a lake, open space, a picnic shelter, playground/tot lot, and walking trails.
Van Horn Woods is located on the south side of town between Lily Cache and W Frontage Road. The park has 87 acres and features 2 areas. The east section of the park is accessible from Frontage Rd and features a bike trail and dog park. There is also a lake and fishing pier. The west side features sports fields, a large gazebo and playground. It is accessed from Lily Cache.
Lake Renwick Preserve is 839 acres with three areas - the Turtle Lake access, the Heron Rookery and the Copley Nature Park. The Turtle Lake section is the only area to fish and bike in with 3.35 miles of trails. The Heron Rookery is home to heron, egrets, cormorants, bald eagles, American white pelicans and hundreds of winter waterfowl. The Copley Nature Park provides a gazebo with mounted scopes for viewing the many species of birds living in the preserve.
